Abstract

Sleeping is beneficial activity to maintain health. The quality of sleeping can be affected by numerous factors such as habit and sleeping pattern. Once people get older, yearly habit might developed because of their physical or social condition. The researchers argue that the change of anthropometric characteristics together with the other condition might create the needs of providing adequate sleeping facilities. In this research, we focus to three aspects of sleeping activities, which consists of: matress, bed and the environment near the bed. Using the KANO method and QFD to 233 respondents, we found out that based on expected requirements, there are eight consideration aspects to increase user satisfaction as follows: width of the mattress, lamp besides the bed, additional cabinet near the bed, material of the matress, ergonomic height for the elderly to sit, movable bed, clean requirement of the bed, and additional alert button. All of the requirements then were translated into four recommendation of sleeping facilities. Each of recommendation design also discussed in this paper.
