AI Policy
Artificial Intelligence Policy
At JoSC, we acknowledge the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to assist authors in the research and writing process. JoSC is open to the advancements in this field, which will improve the opportunities for generating ideas, accelerating research discovery, synthesising or analyzing findings, refining language, or structuring a submission. Opportunities for research acceleration and dissemination are provided by Generative AI or Large Language Models (LLMs). These opportunities have the potential to be transformative; however, they are incapable of mirroring the creative and critical thinking capabilities of humans. JoSC's policy regarding the utilization of AI technology has been established to aid authors, reviewers, and editors in making informed decisions regarding the ethical implementation of this technology.
For authors
Assisted by AI
With the increasing accessibility of technology, we acknowledge that AI-assisted writing has become more prevalent. Authors and reviewers are not required to disclose assistive AI tools, which are AI tools that provide recommendations to enhance or improve your own work, such as tools that enhance language, grammar, or structure. Nevertheless, it is the responsibility of the authors to guarantee that their submission is precise and adheres to the rigorous scholarship standards.
Generative AI
The use of AI tools that can generate content, such as text, images, references, or any other form of content, must be disclosed by authors or reviewers upon their use. Original sources should be cited by authors in the references, rather than Generative AI tools, as primary sources. To enable the Editorial team to assess the content generated, it is necessary to disclose whether the submission was predominantly or partially generated using AI at the time of submission.
The following JoSC guidelines must be adhered to by authors, in particular:
- Indicate the language models that were employed in the manuscript, specifying the model and its intended use. Kindly utilize the methods or acknowledgements section, as applicable.
- Confirm the accuracy, validity, and appropriateness of the content and any citations produced by language models, and rectify any inconsistencies, biases, or errors.
- There is a possibility of plagiarism in the LLM, as it may have reproduced a significant amount of text from other sources. Please verify the original sources to ensure that you are not plagiarizing the work of another individual.
- Please be aware of the possibility of fabrication, which may have resulted in the LLM generating fraudulent content, such as inaccuracies in the facts or the generation of citations that do not exist. Be certain to verify all claims in your article before submitting it.
- Please be advised that the inclusion of AI programs, such as ChatGPT, as authors on your submission is not recommended.
The Editor reserves the right to reject a submission at any point during the publishing process if the Editor becomes aware that Generative AI was inappropriately used in the preparation of a submission without disclosure, despite the fact that submissions will not be rejected due to the disclosed use of generative AI. Inappropriate utilization of Generative AI encompasses the creation of inaccurate text or content, plagiarism, or inappropriate attribution to prior sources.
For Reviewers and Editors
The use of AI or LLMs for editorial work raises concerns regarding copyright and confidentiality. The model or instrument will acquire knowledge from the information it receives over time and may employ it to yield outputs for others.
Assisted by AI
In order to enhance the quality of the language in their reviews, reviewers may desire to implement Generative AI. If they do so, they are responsible for the content, accuracy, and constructive feedback contained within the review. Acting as custodians of the scholarly record, journal editors maintain overall responsibility for the content published in their journal. Generative AI tools may be employed by editors to aid in the identification of appropriate peer-reviewers.
Generative AI
The journal will not invite reviewers who inappropriately generate review reports using ChatGPT or other Generative AI tools, and their reviews will not be included in the final decision.
Decision letters or summaries of unpublished research must not be generated by editors using ChatGPT or other Generative AI.
Undisclosed or Inappropriate Use of Generative AI
Reviewers who are concerned about the suspected inappropriate or undisclosed use of generative AI in a submission should communicate their concerns to the Journal Editor. In the event that Editors suspect the use of ChatGPT or any other generative AI in a submitted manuscript or review, they should either consult their JoSC representative for advice or consider this policy when administering an editorial evaluation.
Concerns regarding the inappropriate or undisclosed utilization of Generative AI in a published article will be investigated jointly by JoSC and the Journal Editor.
